Motorists, will now have to wait even longer for parts to repair their vehicles.

The ongoing delays in the supply chain of vehicle parts since the start of Russia's invasion of the Ukraine and now the flooding in KwaZulu-Natal, which resulted in the closure of the Port Durban, is a twofold blow for the motor retail industry, according to the Motor Industry Staff Association . "Motorists, whose vehicles are being repaired, have already been waiting months for parts or components to arrive in South Africa, from various destinations abroad. They cannot afford to wait indefinitely. Service providers, who need to continue paying their operation at expenses, are running out of funds because they don't get paid until the work is done," Martlé Keyter, MISA's CEO: Operations, said in a statement on Thursday evening.

Furthermore, the flooding disaster in KZN could result in job losses nationwide in the motor retail industry, if operations at the Port of Durban is not restored to supply vehicles, parts and components, warns Keyter. MISA represents more than 53 000 members who are dependent on motor vehicle- and component sales, vehicle services and repair work. at its factory in Prospecton, south of Durban on Monday evening after it was flooded in the heavy rains that have battered parts of KwaZulu-Natal this week. The Toyota South Africa Motors plant manufactures Hilux, Fortuner, Corolla Cross and Corolla Quest models, and employs 7 200 people.
