The council has ramped up its efforts to assist women in the industry, including those in communities, through vital aftercare services to survivors of gender-based violence. The website, www.mineralscouncil.org.za/womeninmining/ states the council’s commitment to double the percentage of women in mining by 2025. Over the next decade, the Minerals Council aims to have between 30% and 40% women representation in the industry workforce, and 50% of management positions comprising women.

Specifically, the council is focusing on attracting women to the industry to join at junior level and then advance, as well as retain women by upholding gender-inclusive policies. The council also aims to provide training, mentorship and sponsorship for women to develop skills further.
