The Jaguars still have much more work to do if they want to reach the mountaintop like Doug Pederson's Eagles five years ago, but the team's growing confidence is apparent.
After Thursday's win against the Jets last week, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said the team hadn't accomplished its goals yet. That remains true. With a wild card berth unlikely, the Jaguars' only shot at making the postseason will be to win the division. And that means beating the Titans again in Week 18.
Players brought in included guard Brandon Scherff, receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, and tight end Evan Engram. All four players have been major contributors to the team's ascension into first place in the AFC South while also helping Lawrence show marked improvement from his rookie campaign. "Obviously early in the season, it was a little disappointing with the way things are going but I'm just happy we've been able to turn things around and just really give ourselves an opportunity to be able to play for the postseason because I didn't want to wait too long to make it to the postseason," Kirk said.
"This is why I came here ... to be able to help create opportunities like this, help this football team win," he said."Like I said, I just knew all of the potential that was in this locker room and in this building." "They did a good job of stopping us and not allowing us to put up points," Jones said of their first meeting in Week 5."Six points is not what we want to do. So we know we have to be more productive and take care of the football better this time."
