In 2023 alone, there have been 129 mass shootings so far. Firearms recently surpassed car accidents as the leading cause of death for children in the United States. Every year, tens of thousands of people are killed by gun violence.

Nevertheless, we know that gun safety laws work. A testament to our gun safety laws, California has among the lowest gun violence rates in the country. California’s gun death rate is 37% below the national average. According to the national gun safety organization, Everytown, only five states have a lower gun death rate than California.
