An adaptation of the 1994 book by Christopher Pike, The Midnight Club sees Flanagan turn his attention to younger audiences by following a group of terminally ill teenagers at a hospice who meet up nightly to connect and tell each other scary stories.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The show does leave a lot open for interpretation, however. Even though The Midnight Club season 1 ends with a number of unanswered questions, especially about the elderly ghosts that may or may not be roaming the hospice, it is so far up to the audience to decide whether the supernatural component is legitimate.
We wanted people to rethink assumptions they may have made about who Dr. Stanton is. It’s a very Pike-ian moment. There’s one major clue, I think it shouldn’t be too tough — looking back at the season – to kind of figure out why the tattoo is there and who she may be in actuality. I don’t think we tried to hide that very hard.
What To Expect From Dr. Stanton In Midnight Club Season 2 The surprise regarding Stanton has led many Midnight Club fans to wonder whether she might actually be Athena, whose diaries play a factor throughout season 1. So far, even when clashing with some of the residents of the hospice, Stanton has shown herself to be nothing but kind and supportive. But with Flanagan and his team of writers planning for multiple seasons of The Midnight Club, it seems that the mystery of Dr.
But at least in The Midnight Club season 1, the focus was largely on delivering a relatively grounded and moving meditation on death and dying and hard truths that can't be changed. Stanton was an important part of that, as a guide to new hospice residents that aren't quite sure how to approach their unfathomable circumstances. If the character does turn out to be sinister, it would fundamentally shift the dynamic of the Netflix original.
