After a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic, Memorial Day is getting its parade back in Carlisle this spring.After a two-year banishment owing to the pandemic, the organizers of Carlisle’s Memorial Day celebrations are bringing back the parade.
The line of march - featuring veterans’ groups, at least one high school band and floats - is scheduled to step off at 9:00 a.m., Monday, May 30, moving down Hanover Street and then circling back to the Square, where it will segue into the annual community Memorial Day service at Veterans Memorial Courtyard next to the Old Courthouse.
“Carlisle’s early history precedes the American Revolution,” said parade chairman Richard Olson. “Sons and daughters of this historic community have fought and died in every war since at home and abroad. The parade is one way to never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.” Parade entrants - be they individuals, groups, or vehicles and floats - are still being accepted. Olson said the only stipulation is that the theme of the entry be appropriate for Memorial Day.rickolson@carlislevfw.comThe parade route is as follows: Starting from North Hanover and North Street. It will proceed south on Hanover Street past the Square and turn right onto West Pomfret Street. It will continue west and then turn right onto South Pitt Street.
