A particularly defining moment for Gates in her own push for equality came when she asked to contribute more to the annual Gates Foundation letter. Her husband Bill had authored the letter for several years. But as Melinda Gates became more public in her already very active role at the foundation and less constrained by childcare commitments, she felt that “I should step in and write more.” Her goal to co-author the annual letter was met with initial resistance, however.
