Just a few doors down from the swanky Mr. C Seaport hotel, The Little Shop has all the makings of a neighborhood haunt.
Picture, if you will, a bodega; that most essential, most democratic of New York City institutions. This one is conspicuously tidy—there isn’t a cat on the premises, as far as you can tell—but in every other way, it looks exactly as it should; piled to the ceiling with potato chips, peanut butter, gum, tea, disinfectant wipes, and every other thing a person never seems to need until she urgently does. , a recent addition to Front Street in lower Manhattan.
Scattered with an artful arrangement of found and vintage furniture—Boujnah’s wife Ana works at Sotheby’s, and helped with restorations—the bar, like the mini-grocery, feels cozily familiar. It’s well-served by a considered, but emphatically unpretentious menu of vegetable empanadas, duck dumplings, torched shishito peppers, and cocktails like the “Turmeric,” “Celery,” “Tamarind” and “Ginger,” each named for their leading ingredient.
At the time of writing, The Little Shop’s Instagram has zero posts, and in its way, that also speaks to its come-one-come-all ethos.
