People in Merseyside showed their support after the much-loved shop's owners made a plea on Facebook
Scousers vented their fury after a “legendary” Liverpool shop claimed it had been hit by a wave of shoplifters.
Speaking to the ECHO earlier today, Matta’s urged any customers to let them know if they see anything suspicious. Matta’s said: "We don't want to be suspicious of every customer who comes into the store. We have a lovely community here and our customers are like a family. If you see anything let us know.It pleaded for people to share the Facebook post to help support Liverpool’s independent scene.
“Customers need to be vigilant when shopping and name and shame these people who are stealing. Do you want the ethos of Matta’s to change where your bag is checked in and out? We all need to stop this.”Some suggested the shop should employ CCTV or security staff to catch and prevent thefts. One said: “They need to employ security to protect their business and assets. Professional thieves will target small independent businesses with no security as they see them as easy pickings.
