City council is expected to revisit the issue next month.

City council voted on Monday to extend the mask requirement on buses after an update on COVID-19 in Saskatoon.

Director of emergency management Pamela Goulden-McLeod presented a report with details from local medical health officer Jasmine Hasselback, whoGoulden-Mcleod said further data shows 25 people being treated for COVID-19 in local intensive care wards, unchanged from last week. The Saskatchewan Health Authority reported 258 confirmed new COVID-19 infections in Saskatoon, 33 fewer than last week. Goulden-Mcleod cautioned that confirmed case numbers from the province only include results from the limited PCR testing system, not the more common rapid antigen tests.

Goulden-Mcleod told council the city administration recommended no change in the city’s current COVID-19 measures for the public:. Masks will still be available for free on buses. Council received 10 letters from citizens on the issue; all of them asked to maintain the masking rule on buses. The news seems to be flying at us faster all the time.
