'We have to ensure that more walking does not lead to more pedestrian casualties' ✍MarthaWardrop
We have to make it easier for people to cross the road and to give people the pavement space they need to walk around safely.
The quality of our public spaces is connected directly to people’s perceptions of how attractive they are. If people have positive perceptions of a place, they are more likely to visit and shop there. Therefore, public realm investment can lead to increased employment in our high streets and also, support regeneration by encouraging local business start-ups.
To live independent, vulnerable older people need their mobility to be supported to reach the local activities and services that they require. Crossing our roads is one of the major concerns. Safe walking routes are especially important to access bus stops and make use of public transport.
