Two fires were burning in California's Placer County on Tuesday afternoon: the Mosquito Fire and the Dutch Fire.
Fanned by southwesterly winds, the fires spread rapidly through vegetation and forestland that were left bone-dry after last week’s record-breaking heat wave.
Cal Fire said the Dutch Fire was 25 acres as of 3 p.m. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office issued multiple evacuations due to the fire and set up a temporary evacuation center at Sierra Vista Community Center at 55 School St. in Colfax. Dutch Flat is a small town of pine forests and Victorian homes about 45 miles west of Truckee that dates back to the Gold Rush days.
