The airport said it had returned to a 'near normal flight schedule' - but passengers should still keep an eye on their flight status
Manchester Airport has issued fresh guidance for passengers after Monday’s air traffic control fault led to major travel disruption. The airport said it was operating a ‘near normal flight schedule’ on Wednesday after two days of cancelled and delayed flights.
Passengers are urged to check the status of their flight with their airline before making their way to the airport as some services continue to be delayed. The airport warned that ‘terminals may be busier than usual’ as airlines work to overcome the disruption. In a statement shared on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, the airport said: “Manchester Airport is operating a near normal flight schedule today, following Monday’s nationwide technical issue that affected air traffic control. We continue to advise passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling to the airport.
On Monday, a technical fault meant air traffic controllers had to input flight plans manually and UK airspace had to be restricted. Although the error was fixed by the afternoon, the disruption led to hundreds of cancelled and delayed flights as aircraft and crews were displaced, having a knock on effect to services.
According to aviation data firm Cirium, 70 departures and 785 arrivals were cancelled across all UK airports on Monday. That was equivalent to around 27 per cent of planned flights and means around a quarter of a million people were affected.
