Kieran Turner turned 37 on the day he was sent to prison
A far-right extremist and ex-soldier has been jailed on his birthday after glorifying the killer of MP Jo Cox. Kieran Turner described Thomas Mair as a 'hero' online, as well as sharing posts which expressed 'extreme racism' and hatred towards black people, Jews and Muslims.
"It should be observed that Thomas Mair murdered the Jo Cox MP on June 16, 2016, as she was on her way to meet constituents in Birstall, West Yorkshire," Mr Allman said. "The number 650 refers to the number of members of the House of Commons." In one post, which depicted a crime scene in London, he wrote: "Anyone else sick of hearing about this 'knife crime epidemic' down south? Knives aren't the problem - non whites are." He described Alice Cutter and Mark Jones, who were jailed for their membership of the banned far-right extremist group National Action, as 'sound'.
The court heard that he has recently been diagnosed with autism, which was likely to have been affecting him at the time of the offending posts in 2019 and 2020. The judge said this made him 'more vulnerable to radicalisation'. She said that Turner had suffered from PTSD after serving in the Army. Sentencing, Judge Alan Conrad KC said: "The danger in these cases is that there is a risk that one person could act on these posts with terrible consequences."
