The victim was taken to a hospital after an incident near 16th and Carnation streets around noon Sunday.

Emergency dispatchers were called out around noon after a man was reported to have been shot in the back of the neck or head but was alive and alert. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Harrisburg police. Witnesses in the neighborhood said that an assailant approached the victim and pistol-whipped him before following him a short distance down Carnation Street.
As the victim attempted to get away, the assailant fired his gun and then fled in a vehicle, according to witnesses.
