The football star was tasked with making his own pastel de natas
It’s perhaps a little known fact that Manchester City star Matheus Nunes used to work in a bakery before he hit it big as a footballer. So, the superstar was taken back to his roots last week to work a shift at a popular hatch-style bakery in Ancoats to see if he remembered a thing or two.
The bakery, which was recently nominated Independent Food Producer of the Year at this year’s Manchester Food and Drink Awards, has proven to be a big hit in Ancoats since it opened last year. The business started life during lockdown and is run by couple Matt and Deborah, who are both originally from Brazil.
Matheus, 25, has previously spoken about working at his family’s Pão da Vila bakery in the seaside town of Ericeira whilst undergoing football training. He explained: "My godfather, who is a very good friend of my mum's, had a bakery. At some point I had to choose between school and soccer. Speaking about his arrival at Manchester City following his time at Wolves, Matheus said: “When I had this opportunity on the table, I didn't think twice. I wanted it, I wanted it right away. When you are very keen to go to a club, the adaptation is much easier.”
