Adolfo Serrano was charged with intoxication manslaughter of a peace officer in the death of Precinct 7 Constable Deputy Jennifer Chavis, the Harris County sheriff’s office announced Sunday.

Instead, Serrano allegedly veered out of his lane and slammed straight into the back of Chavis’ squad car, the sheriff’s office said. Her department-issued Chevrolet Tahoe went flying down the tollway and immediately went up in flames, leaving Chavis dead in the wreckage.
