The force defended its actions and said in a statement the 'aggressive behaviour of two dogs was of considerable concern and posed a significant threat to them'.
A man has been charged with dangerous dog offences after Metropolitan Police officers shot dead two dogs and Tasered a man in east London on Monday.
Louis Turnbull, 46, was charged on Tuesday at Thames Magistrates Court with being the person/owner of a dog that was dangerously out of control. He was also charged with being in possession/custody of a dog whilst disqualified from owning or keeping a dog. The charges follow a call to police just after 5pm on Sunday to reports of a woman being attacked by a dog on Commercial Road in east London.She also suffered a leg injury during the attack but did not require hospital treatment.
Both dogs were destroyed by police at the scene and their owner was arrested before being taken into custody and later charged.
