A lengthy police standoff with a man who was allegedly armed with a chainsaw outside of a Subway in Mission Hills came to a peaceful end on Tuesday. The standoff began at around 3:20 p.m. near Sepulveda Boulevard and San Fernando Mission Road, according to Los Angeles Police Department officers. They were first called to the scene after receiving reports that the man was holding the chainsaw in the back of the pickup truck.
'In this case, his information was out and distributed to our patrol officers and they were on the lookout,' said LAPD Detective Samer Issa. 'These officers recognized him from the flier, and they recognized his vehicle as well and they were able to approach him and determine that he was in fact the suspect wanted in that assault with a deadly weapon investigation.'With SkyCal overhead, the man could be seen hiding in the bed of a truck while surrounded by several LAPD vehicles.
