Phoenix's trip to Disney World wasn’t just any vacation — it was his wish.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Phoenix Mendoza of Anchorage is an 8-year-old kid who loves adventure.

He and his family took a trip to Florida in January, but this wasn’t just any vacation — it was Phoenix’s wish.“He’d be great, and then all of a sudden, he’d be not great, you know, just kind of a typical thing when a kid gets a bug,” said Melissa Mendoza, Phoenix’s mom. Something was wrong. Doctors told them Phoenix’s white blood cell count was off the charts and at 3 years old, he was officially diagnosed.

“Our mindset went to just like, we have to conquer. We have to survive. We can get through this. We’ll work as a family and get through it,” added Melissa.

The district would hold 'superior authority and control' over planning, zoning and other land use in the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, under a Florida law that formed the state-appointed oversight board.

Gov. DeSantis surrogates escalate tit-for-tat versus DisneyGov. DeSantis surrogates escalate tit-for-tat versus DisneyThere’s a new salvo in the fight to control Disney World. Allies appointed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to take over the resort’s governing board are proposing a resolution to expand their authority weeks after their predecessors stripped it. Supervisors of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District say the board has “superior authority” over land development decisions at Walt Disney World. That includes two tiny Disney-controlled cities in the district. Board members say their predecessors pulled a fast one when they voted to essentially dissolve the body’s powers before the DeSantis appointees took their seats. DeSantis’ feud with Disney started last year over the company's opposition to Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.
