Eve McIvor says she's 'loving it' after returning to her former school to teach Makaton.
By Teresa CraigA woman with Down's syndrome who teaches Makaton has said it feels amazing to go back to her old school as a teacher.Makaton is a language programme that uses symbols, signs, and speech to enable people to communicate.She's back at her old school once a week to share her Makaton expertise.
"I work really hard during the week, Every night I go up to my room, and do Makaton. I'm a Makaton master.Eve teaches Year 8 and 9 pupils at the Derry school.It was developed in the 1970s and 1980s, and is named using the initials of the people who originally created it.
