Madison was recognized by the Girl Scouts of Greater New York — of which she’s been a member for over a decade — asfor her achievements in community service, academics, and leadership. Today, on World Teen Mental Wellness Day, we applaud Madison’s inspiring work and all that she’s done to disrupt the stigma of mental health issues in the young Black community.
I knew I had to bring [mental health awareness] back to my home and my [Girl Scouts] troop. So at Troop 2261, I spoke to the Black girls and presented mental health research and I taught them the value of loving themselves, and loving their noses, their hair, and their skin, and just how important it is to realize that Black is beautiful. And then I did some yoga with them, of course.

'Closest black hole' system found to contain no black holeIn 2020 a team led by European Southern Observatory (ESO) astronomers reported the closest black hole to Earth, located just 1,000 light-years away in the HR 6819 system. But the results of their study were contested by other researchers, including by an international team based at KU Leuven, Belgium. In a paper published today, these two teams have united to report that there is in fact no black hole in HR 6819, which is instead a 'vampire' two-star system in a rare and short-lived stage of its evolution.
