A stretch of the M6 is set to remain closed for 'several hours' this afternoon after a serious crash.
An air ambulance has landed on the scene. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area while emergency services respond. The extent of any injuries has not yet been confirmed. A statement on the National Highways website said: "The M6 in Greater Manchester is closed northbound between J22 & J23 due to a serious road traffic collision involving 2 Heavy Goods Vehicles and a car.
"Traffic within the northbound closure is being turned around from the rear. Motorists are advised to wait until instructed to turn.
