The move is in response to the opening of a new opioid treatment clinic on the corner of 24th Avenue and 196th Street three months ago.
Councilmembers said they felt like Acadia Healthcare, the company that runs the clinic, was not being transparent and only planned on informing the city about the facility once plans were already in place.
On Monday night, Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell said that on Friday, she became aware of a new application for another clinic with a different company, but the application was similar to the one they received from Acadia. Frizzell said the city needs to review ordinances to assess the proper location and involvement of any new clinics.“Drug abuse is a Lynnwood issue, it’s not a Seattle problem, it’s a Lynnwood issue, it’s happening in every community and I think it’s important to have that mindset to take ownership of helping to solve the problem,” one resident said.It will be in place for the next six months but could be extended to a full year.
