The hospital manager went on to take up a similar role at an NHS trust which operates some of the biggest hospitals in Greater Manchester
The former director of nursing at the hospital where Lucy Letby murdered seven babies has been suspended from her current role at one of Greater Manchester's biggest hospital trusts.
The profile about Alison Kelly on Northern Care Alliance's website reads that she has been working as the director of nursing within the section of the trust which covers Rochdale. She was the interim director of nursing at Salford Royal before taking on the Rochdale area. In 2015 and 2016, there was a significant rise in the numbers of babies who suffered serious and unexpected collapses in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
The Sunday Times reported how, as early as March 2016, Alison Kelly was made aware of concerns by the neonatal ward manager about Letby being a 'commonality' in all of the deaths. The manager had asked for Ms Kelly's help, reports the newspaper. He alleged it took managers three months to respond to a request from consultants to meet them after the second time they raised concerns, in February 2016.
“Eventually, we reached a point in June 2016 when we said, ‘Something has got to change’, but that’s not for me to talk about now.” The doctors did have a meeting with Ms Kelly and Mr Harve to set out their concerns about Letby. The group agreed to review all deaths and to keep Letby on day shifts for three months but doctors remained worried.
