Obituaries: Former San Diego County high school coaches Brad Griffith (83), Jim Stant (85)
Brad Griffith, a man with nearly 500 wins in a 47-year career as a teacher and coach, died Saturday.A 1956 graduate, Griffith earned nine varsity letters at Lincoln High, playing football, basketball and baseball.
He spent two years as an assistant football coach at Lincoln High and eight years at Kearny before being named the first head football coach at Mira Mesa when the school opened in 1976. Mira Mesa’s 1983 team finished 10-3, losing to Sweetwater 21-13 in the CIF Championship game in San Diego Stadium.
