Some have feared for the future of charity shops on the high street
Liverpool’s charity shops have issued their verdict on the rise of Depop, Vinted and other online resale sites.
Emma said: “To be honest, we’ve never noticed any difference. We’ve got a loyal audience and we do a lot in the community.” They argue that charity shops, by serving an "older clientele," still have a crucial role to play in the community. They said: "We may be the only interaction in the day they have."
She said: “Here at Open Door, we have found that these resale sites have brought a different kind of customer to our shops. We have seen an increase in a younger demographic who want to shop sustainably but still want to look fashionable and express their personality. Open Door is also selling items on these sites, but maintain charity shops still have a unique offering that Depop and Vinted can’t replicate. Susan said: “Charity shops themselves can benefit by selling on these sites and expanding their audience and market. We are just starting to list items on our own Depop page.
