Brennan defeated Taft, 73-52, to advance.The Brennan Bears and the Beaumont United Timberwolves are facing off in a Texas Class 6A boys basketball state semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Freshman Isaiah Ward leads the Bears with eight points and nine rebounds. Brennan struggled from the floor, hitting 8 of 27 attempts, but showed improvement in the second quarter. United's Wesley Yates III leads all scorers with 11 points. The Timberwolves forced Brennan into 10 turnovers and scored 10 points off those turnovers, including six fastbreak points.Brennan and United are playing with a lot of pace in the opening half, and the refs are letting both teams be physical in the early going.
United has the best of the tempo so far with a 7-1 advantage in turnovers. The Timberwolves lead 26-18 with 3:27 left in the second quarter.Brennan trails United 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled from the field, with Brennan shooting 17.6 percent and United shooting 30 percent. Brennan committed four turnovers to none for United.
