Aspiring Cleveland writers eligible for financial support and mentoring through Literary Cleveland.
program for support as you develop your first full-length books. The program is for emerging writers who have not published a book or completed a Master of Fine Arts program.Mentors will work with six emerging writers from Greater Cleveland to make progress on a manuscript. Winners will gain free access to Literary Cleveland programs, participate in professional development opportunities, collaborate with other writers and present work at the annual Inkubator Conference.
The program is mostly virtual with monthly in-person meetings throughout the year. This is the first year the residency program will also offer monthly stipends of $200 for 12 months.Mentors for the 2024-2025 period include fiction writer Claire McMillan author of “Alchemy of a Blackbird,” nonfiction writer Athena Dixon, author of “The Loneliness Files,” and poet Teri Ellen Cross Davis, author of “A More Perfect Union.
This is the program’s third year. Previous participants have gone on to publish writing, win prizes and secure additional residencies. Literary Cleveland seeks to support writers with low or limited income for whom advanced and long-term writing opportunities are out of reach. Additionally, they encourage writers who are Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American Pacific Islander, or multihyphenate, those who identify as LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and other members of communities historically underrepresented in the literary community to apply.. A free information session will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.
