In an exclusive interview with i's Chris Stocks, Livingstone explains why England aren't taking anything for granted at the World Cup
“It’s great,” says Livingstone, who grew up in Cumbria, like Stokes. “Any team with Ben Stokes in it is a better team. Everybody loves having Ben around, it’s not just on the pitch but in the changing room, away from cricket. He’s just a great competitor and I think anybody in the world would have Ben Stokes in their team. It’s a massive boost for us and I’m sure Ben’s looking forward to it.”
Livingstone also enjoyed a good one-day series against New Zealand, with his unbeaten 95 in 78 balls helping England recover from 55 for 5 to win the second ODI in Southampton.It was a knock that secured his place in England’s XI for the World Cup, where he will be expected to bat at No 6. Yet it is his spin bowling, and his ability to turn the ball away from both left and right-handed batters, that could prove key in India.
“My bowling is something I really enjoy,” he said. “It’s something very different, more of a challenge than my batting so whether it be with bat, ball or in the field, I’ve got an opportunity to affect the game. That’s what I want to do – win games of cricket for England.”to England’s chances. The 30-year-old, who has four IPL campaigns under his belt, says: “I guess having played IPLs, the experience most of our boys have of India will be huge for us.”
