Letter: 'For any Republican official, the response to a question along the lines of, 'Should Donald Trump have a place in the future of Republican Party politics?,' should be an unhesitating, unequivocal 'No.''
Even leaving aside the coup he tried to orchestrate resulting in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, Trump recently invited Ye , at the time a self-proclaimed anti-semite , for dinner at Mar a Lago.Now, Trump has advocated suspending the U.S. Constitution in furtherance of his continuing and delusional hallucination that he somehow won the 2020 election. These recent actions alone should be enough to horrify all Americans, regardless of political affiliation.
So far, way too many of them have been either tepid in their responses, or altogether silent. The media should keep on them. For any Republican official, the response to a question along the lines of, “Should Donald Trump have a place in the future of Republican Party politics?,” should be an unhesitating, unequivocal “No.” Any deflection, qualification, hedge or other response should be characterized as, to quote Liz Cheney, “defending the indefensible.”
