'Lessons learned' as Nottingham restaurant improves food hygiene rating from 0 to the full 5
The manager of a Nottingham restaurant said he has learned from his mistakes after improving his food hygiene rating from 0 to 5. Dosa Wala boss Vel Murugan said he spent a lot of money on getting his venue in the best possible shape and feels as though the top rating is "deserved".
"I didn't expect the 0 rating to have such an impact on the business and myself - I was removed from Deliveroo and Just Eat and wasn't allowed to be a partner. For the past three or four months, business was really down and I struggled at times to pay staff and bills, it hurt me a lot. "The inspector has a process to follow, and he had to give us the 0 rating at first. But I didn't expect it, I've been in this industry for around 12 years - normally if you get a rating of 0, it's because of bad food management."
