The former club and casino was known by many different names but the building was loved by generations

Son of well-known Liverpool bouncer and former Cavern Club owner Roy Adams, Rowland followed in his dad's footsteps and ran several clubs around Southport, the ECHO recently reported. His dad Roy was the last owner of the original Cavern, looked after doors, and ran nightclubs, dancehalls, restaurants, and country clubs between 1957 and 1999.

In the late 1920s, she had the ‘Kingsway Cafe’ built and Lucy soon became as famous for owning the Kingsway, which opened in 1931, as she was hawking rabbits. Run by gambling magnate George James, the Kingsway Casino opened in July 1964 and at one time also offered a a 2,000-seater restaurant, with three floor shows each night, featuring star-studded stage acts. It attracted some of the biggest names in show business, and even international superstars of the day, such as Engelbert Humperdinck, Lulu, and Cilla Black. Tom Jones, appeared at the venue’s ‘Starlite Room’ in October 1966.

Other football stars to visited included Alan Shearer, Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock and goalkeeper Ray Clemence. Many other celebrities appeared at the door like Ross Kemp, Nick Bateman from Big Brother and Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet, with Take That's Howard Donald also DJ'ing there. But by January 2004, the building had closed down and was put up for sale by the parent company Luminar Leisure. After being shut for nearly three years, it reopened as a nightclub in November 2006 - with its original Kingsway name - and Berlins Bar.But the new start was short-lived, and the club closed yet again the following year. The Kingsway fell into disrepair, with several redevelopment plans coming to nothing.
