Joel Piroe was one Leeds United's most impressive performers in the 4-2 win over Ipswich Town but he also brought the best out of others
A rising tide lifts all boats, as the old adage goes. That’s exactly what Leeds United found out on Saturday afternoon as Joel Piroe made his mark by appearing to help bring the best out of others at Portman Road.
What was impressive about it, though, was his effort to follow up on the shot and make his own luck, ensuring he was there to claim anything that may fall his way. It’s fair to say that sort of predator instinct is exactly what the Whites have been crying out for up front for some time. The club record signing had struggled to find any traction whatsoever for the club and his outing against West Brom underlined such concern as he looked isolated and lost as the lone frontman in Farke’s system. Piroe, though, linked the play and brought him into the action superbly to allow Rutter to finally showcase why the club felt the need to splash so much cash on him in January.
Farke knew exactly what he was getting from Piroe and that quality and self-belief clearly rubs off one those around him. Leeds have the man who can provide the leg-up they need to take them back to the top, of that there is little doubt.
