A university lecturer has received a life sentence after he attempted to kill his estranged wife over a financial dispute.
A man who stabbed his estranged wife 10 to 15 times has been handed a life sentence.Zhang, 55, began to engage in ‘controlling behaviour’ in 2019 as their marriage began ‘faltering’ and he wished to ‘control the assets within the family’.The marriage had been marred by incidents of domestic abuse – including one incident where Zhang threatened to kill Dr Xiao, though she did not pursue charges against him.
Zhang spied on Dr Xiao from a family guest house and even created a spreadsheet to track her movements. Zhang denied attempted murder and possession of a bladed article, but he was found guilty of the charges by a jury at the Old Bailey.
