Officials from an auto theft task force shot a woman who brandished a replica handgun and pointed it at them in Talmadge, police said.
After identifying themselves as law enforcement, the officials asked a woman in the vehicle to exit. While following the order, SDPD said the woman brandished what"appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at officers." This resulted in the officials opening fire on the woman and striking her multiple times, police said.Sign up for NBC San Diego newsletters.
Following the shooting, officers performed emergency aid on the woman until she was taken to an area hospital. Police said she is expected to survive her injuries. SDPD said it will not be releasing the name of the woman at this time, but they did say she was 32 years old.SDPD's Homicide Unit is investigating the incident, which is protocol for lethal and non-lethal shootings involving countywide law enforcement agencies except for SDPD, Lt.
