A newly released TheLastOfUs season 1, episode 1 clip shows Marlene and Ellie's tense relationship in the highly-anticipated HBO adaptation.
Marlene and Ellie's tense relationship is on full display in a new The Last of Us premiere clip. Merle Dandridge reprises her role as Marlene, a character she portrayed in the original award-winning 2013 PlayStation 3 video game. The highly-anticipated zombie horror show follows rugged survivor Joel Miller as he escorts Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States to a militant revolutionary group known as the Fireflies.

She is something of a complex character, and it remains to be seen if the HBO adaptation will alter her role at all.
Why Marlene Values Ellie in The Last of Us The Fireflies are a group that believes the world can overcome the deadly fungus and return to what it once was before the catastrophic outbreak. Marlene sees Ellie as the key to that future. A Last of Us episode 1 scene released earlier this week showed how the Fireflies kept Ellie protected, chaining her to the wall of the small room while performing cognitive tests.
