A new poll from a pro-Frank LaRose group in the Ohio Senate race released a poll Wednesday showing the Ohio secretary of state with a substantial lead over the rest of the Republican field.
The poll, which was obtained by the Washington Examiner, was paid for by Leadership for Ohio Fund, a pro-LaRose group, and conducted by Causeway Solutions. The poll for the Ohio Republican Senate Primary included 473 registered Republican voters.
It shows LaRose at 27.9%, Ohio state Sen. Matt Dolan at 11.1%, and wealthy Ohio businessman Bernie Moreno at 5%.“Having an ‘R’ beside a name won’t be enough. Brown has proven himself to be a formidable candidate. The GOP needs to put the best candidate forward to avoid squandering their best opportunity to win this seat in nearly 20 years,” the poll memo says.
This poll comes after a USA Today and Suffolk University poll showed that LaRose was at 18.95%, compared to Dolan, who had 13.68%, and Moreno had 8.95%, while 56.84% say they are undecided. Each of the three have run for statewide office in the past, but LaRose is the only one who has won. Dolan ran for Senate in 2022 but came in third in the primary. Moreno also ran in 2022 but dropped out after having a private conversation with former President Donald Trump.
The winner of the Republican Primary will face Sen. Sherrod Brown , who has held the seat since 2007. Ohio has been trending Republican over the past decade, having gone for former President Donald Trump in the past two presidential elections. Since 2011, Brown has been the only statewide elected Democrat in Ohio outside the state Supreme Court justices.
