Christopher Lennox downloaded 7,000 indecent images and video clips over a seven year period
A pensioner and former parish councillor has been jailed for 21 months after downloading and sharing thousands of indecent images of children.
"The tone of the messages is people sharing a common interest and being pleased to be in contact and able to speak freely about things they, at least in your case, kept from everyone else," the prosecution told the court.Around 2,000 of the moving images were at the most serious category with a further 96 category A stills. Over seven years, Lennox downloaded and stored photos and film clips on laptops, and a hard drive at his Leyland home.
Judge Graham Knowles KC, sentencing, told him: "The devastating, lifelong psychological harm suffered by children in the creation of these images which you shared and distributed is exacerbated by the emotional impact that those who become aware that their sexual violations have been shared across the world."
