Hall of Famer Alan Trammel coach third base during the exhibition game with a New York team
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT - ”An unbelievable experience” is what the president of the Lancaster County Challenger Division program called the exhibition game played as part of the Little League World Series.
As is the custom in Challenger Division games everyone batted and scored. Some ran around the bases while others circled them on crutches or in wheelchairs. No score is kept. For Mike Tafelski, a long-time official and volunteer with the Lancaster County Challenger program, it was the opportunity to meet one of his favorite ballplayers. He got a signed ball and a selfie with him, he said.
Little League Challenger programs apply to be selected for the exhibition game that annually is played during championship weekend of the world series. “We applied for years,” Senkowski said.” “Playing in the Little League Challenger Division exhibition game at the world series is one of the most exciting opportunities available for our local leagues” said Sam Ranck, senior director of league development and the Challenger Division.
