Lancashire Police officer to stand trial next week accused of trying to kill woman in hotel
PC James Riley will return to the dock on Monday where he will stand trial, accused of the attempted murder of a woman in November last year. Riley, of Jepps Avenue, Preston, denied the charge at his last appearance in December.
He has been remanded in custody since that hearing and will go back before Manchester Crown Square next week for the trial. The alleged offence dates back to November 10 last year when police were called to a hotel on Upper Brook Street, Manchester.According to Greater Manchester Police, this call was made at 11.30pm and was described as relating to reports of a concern for welfare of a woman. Riley was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder on November 13.
Five months on, the trial will take place in Manchester. Lancashire Constabulary has previously said that Riley is suspended by the force and that it has referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
