The group says Conservatives are 'failing to deal' with the crises facing people
West Northamptonshire Labour has strongly criticised the Conservative-run West Northamptonshire Council ahead of a series of key financial statements for the local authority and country this week. It was revealed on Wednesday this week that the council is predicting a £7.6 million overspend on its budget for this year.
The group say inflation has exacerbated the costs involved in running services with new figures suggesting that the average 6.8% rise in wages since last year has failed to keep up with the 9.9% rise in the cost of living. This means more residents are needing to access struggling council services at a time when they are becoming more expensive to run.
"We have overspent by millions at a time when demand in adult and children services is only going to go up. Our essential Capital programmes are also in difficulty because of the supply chain issues generated by Brexit and the war in Ukraine, as well as escalating costs. "This will create more efficient, more effective services that provide value for our money. It will give our officers a better grip over what is happening. It will allow them to share and pool resources and prevent the wasteful silo working we see now.
