60 per cent of people surveyed said Jeremy Corbyn handled anti-Semitism complaints badly, compared to 18 per cent for Sir Keir Starmer
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer met with Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis at the South Hampstead Synagogue in Londonto show solidarity for Israel following this week’s attacks showed that more people think Sir Keir has handled the issue well than badly since becoming leader of the Opposition. 29 per cent of voters surveyed said they supported his approach toIt marks a dramatic improvement compared to Mr Corbyn’s leadership.
“I am shocked and appalled by the events in Israel,” the Labour leader told delegates in the conference hall. “I utterly condemn the senseless murder of men, women and children, including British citizens, in cold blood by the terrorists of Hamas.”Sir Keir’s comments earned him praise from the Jewish community for working to tackle antisemitism within the Labour party.
Mr Corbyn was suspended as a Labour MP in 2020 after the party was found guilty of unlawful discrimination under his leadership., which found “specific examples of harassment, discrimination and political interference” relating to antisemitism within Labour while Mr Corbyn was leader. It included the party’s handling of a complaint made about Mr Corbyn in 2018, after the former Labour leader posted a statement in support of an artist who had produced an antisemitism mural in east London.
Responding to the report in 2020, Sir Keir said it was “a day of shame for the Labour party” and apologised to the Jewish community. He pledged to implement the report’s recommendations in full and promised a “culture change” within Labour.
