The beauty mogul opened up to Seventeen about what inspired the new products.
POV: It's late 2015, and 18-year-old Kylie Jenner is the ultimate it-girl. Everything from her manicures to her fashionable ensembles goes viral each time she hits post on Insta. The teen star launches, a makeup line featuring lip kits inspired by her signature lip look. The long-wear lip kits are so popular that the brand's website crashed, and all of her products sold out within 10 minutes of their release in November 2015 and then again in February 2016.
Kylie was propelled into superstardom as a tween, and viewers got to tune in and watch her blossom from a bubbly young girl into a savvy businesswoman and proud mother of two. The changes she's made over the years played a large role in the new launch. "I started Kylie Cosmetics when I was seventeen, and the brand and I have grown so much since then," she adds.
As Kylie continues to grow as a multihyphenate, she wants the same for her business. "My goal is to continue elevating and extending our core line." Creating new products is largely based on the support of people who consistently show up for Kylie Cosmetics. "Our consumers really love our lip products," she explains, "it felt like the natural next step to launch a line of lipsticks.
The collection is available in matte and crème finishes and in 24 different shades, and trust, there's something for everyone. While most matte lips have a bad rep for resulting in dry, crackly lips, Kylie stands by her hydrating new formula. Plus, the brand even came up with a virtual tool to ease the pressure of shade matching.Why was it important to include two different finishes?
We wanted to ensure that no matter what lip look a person was going for, there were multiple shade and finish options to choose from.I really wanted the Matte Lipsticks to be non-drying. We developed it with Hyaluronic Acid to make it super hydrating, even with a matte finish.I’m so excited about these 24 new shades, I love having a shade option no matter what mood I’m in, or beauty look I’m going for. We also wanted to make sure there was a lipstick for everyone, no matter their skin tone.
