Tierney had to be subbed after just 25 minutes of Real Sociedad's La Liga win over Athletic Bilbao.
Fears over the severity of Kieran Tierney's injury could be well founded with the defender reportedly ruled out for between 10 and 12 weeks with a muscle tear.
The former Celtic star, currently on loan at Real Sociedad from Arsenal, had to be subbed off during the Basque outfit's La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao last Friday night. That had already ruled the defender out of the Scotland squad, due to be announced on Wednesday ahead of the Euro 2024 showdown with Spain in Seville.
But the news could be even worse for Tierney, with The Athletic reporting that he could be out of action until Christmas. Not only would that see him sidelined for the remainder of Sociedad's Champions League group stage campaign, but the final two qualifiers for Steve Clarke's team, who travel to Georgia on 16 November before hosting Norway at Hampden, by which time they will have hopefully booked their place at next summer's finals in Germany.
Tierney has proved something of a lucky charm when starting for Sociedad. Of the five matches he's been in the starting XI for, they've only lost one - a 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid back in August. They sit fifth in la Liga after eight matches. But will have to do without Tierney until after the winter break if his predicted return timeline plays out.
