A 19-year-old woman is in police custody to be questioned after the university building was covered in paint
A Just Stop Oil protester sprayed a Manchester University building orange on Thursday as police swarmed the area.
Just Stop Oil claimed responsibility for the protest, that also saw buildings at Cambridge University and the University of Leeds targeted, demanding that the government 'immediately halt planned new oil and gas projects.' Responding to the claims, the university said they 'recognise the importance of tackling the climate crisis' and have committed to zero carbon in their operations by 2038, with millions invested into their environmental sustainability strategy.
“While we respect the right to peaceful protest, within the law, we cannot tolerate vandalism and disruption affecting staff, students and visitors.
