Ajay Beard, shown in a September contest, rushed for 148 yards in the fourth quarter Saturday, allowing the Junior Tigers to rally for a 14-8 win.Following Saturday afternoon's South Texas Youth Football Association contest, Ajay Beard wore a T-shirt that read,"Go Long."
In a rematch of last year's Super Bowl, it looked like a Friendswood touchdown in the first quarter and two-point conversion was going to send the Junior Tigers to their third defeat of the season and their most damaging in terms of seeding for the fast-approaching STYFA playoffs.Friendswood could taste the win late in the third quarter. But then the Tigers recovered a fumble with 1:50 to play in the frame, setting the stage for Beard to enjoy his finest moment as a Tiger.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Beard got his eight-minute rampage under way. He scored on a 28-yard, ending a six-play drive. But the attempt for two failed and the Tigers were still in trouble. Friendswood went four-and-out in its attempt to tie the game and Beard made sure the Tigers closed the game on offense with a 41-yard run off tackle.
The team's highlight was a beautiful 27-yard touchdown reception by Corbin Bryant that created the final score.
