Watson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, filed the motion to quash Monday’s deposition based on the grounds that Jane Doe’s attorneys, led by Anissah Nguyen of the Universal Law Group, didn’t act in good faith in trying to reschedule last week’s originally scheduled deposition, postponed because one of the plaintiff’s attorneys was ill.
“… the failure of lawyers to exercise reciprocal courtesy in rescheduling a deposition cancelled at their request raises the specter of gamesmanship,” Hardin wrote in the filing. “…Mr. Watson and his lawyers have made every effort to accommodate the very busy schedules of lawyers, and now to accommodate an unexpected illness the day before the deposition.
“The least that Ms. Roberts’s counsel could do would be to attempt to reschedule on a date when everyone can attend.”“It’s nothing but an extortionist shakedown and we’re not going to put up with it,”In seeking sanctions against the plaintiff’s attorney, Hardin submitted text messages from the plaintiff, screenshots of which are in the filings, showing the plaintiff asking Watson to meet her at the Houstonian hotel, where the alleged incident took place during their lone massage appointment.
