Rep. Jim Jordan sent a subpoena to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday.
demanding information from ICE officials that he had requested more than four months ago during private briefings but had failed to receive.
The committee initially requested documents on Nov. 2, 2023, and followed up with the DHS 10 times across November, December, and January. In Jordan’s letter to Mayorkas, he defended the committee’s authority to conduct oversight of the DHS as a basic responsibility of the legislative branch.to conduct oversight, which ‘encompasses inquiries into the administration of existing laws,of enabling Congress to remedy them,'” Jordan wrote.
