The former Liverpool FC captain was seen as an ally by the LGBTQ+ community but many feel let down
Merseyside LGBTQ+ teams have spoken out after Jordan Henderson discussed his summer exit from Liverpool FC in an interview.
The team manager of LGBTQ+ football team Mersey Marauders told the ECHO: “It's hugely frustrating. He talks of respecting religion and culture. What about respect for the LGBT+ community in Saudi Arabia who live a life subjected to discrimination and violence? Providing his take on the situation, Henderson said he understood the backlash that has come his way as a result of his transfer and was "left hurt" by comments claiming he turned his back on people who felt represented by him.
Henderson’s words failed to resonate with Liverpool FC’s LGBTQ+ supporter group, Kop Outs. The group took to social media to express their disappointment.
